About These Chives

Chives are a hardy perennial herb grown for their slender green leaves and gentle onion-like flavor. The hollow stems can be snipped fresh and added to cooked dishes or sprinkled over food just before serving, bringing a light savory note without overpowering other ingredients. In addition to the edible leaves, the soft purple flowers are also edible and attract pollinators to the garden.

Clumping plants return year after year and stay compact, making chives an easy addition to containers, raised beds, or mixed herb plantings.

Why We Grow It

We grow chives because they’re one of the easiest perennial herbs to keep close to the kitchen. Low maintenance and quick to regrow after cutting, they provide a steady supply of fresh flavor throughout the growing season.
